When families heal, communities grow safer
Mass incarceration doesn’t just impact one person—it touches children, partners, and caregivers who carry the weight of separation every day.
The Appleberry Prison Foundation exists to support those families and help them stay connected in healthy, hopeful ways.

What we do
At the Appleberry Prison Foundation, we support families carrying the hidden cost of incarceration by helping them stay connected, supported, and seen. We help families maintain relationships in meaningful, everyday ways by supporting phone and video calls, assisting with Extended Family Visits, and working to create more welcoming, child-friendly visiting spaces. We also provide simple, accessible resources and are building access to counseling, parent coaching, and support for children and caregivers navigating this experience.
Our impact
We aim to support more than 400 Extended Family Visits so parents and children can spend real time together—not just minutes on a phone. We’re working to launch youth summer camps in the Seattle area that build resilience and confidence, create parenting and coaching support for families with a co-parent in prison, and offer spousal support groups so partners don’t have to carry this alone. We’re also investing in more welcoming, child-friendly visiting spaces by donating family essentials and improving visiting rooms across Washington State correctional facilities.
